Artificial Fin Give Turtle New Life After Shark Attack

Introducing Allison, a rescued green sea turtle who has only one flipper. She is seen here swimming with the aid of a fin at the Sea Turtle Inc. in South Padre Island, Texas. Allison lost three of her flippers in a shark attack, leaving her with just her right front flipper that can only propel her to the left. The neoprene vest and fin was developed at the turtle rescue centre.

Without the snug-fitting jacket, Allison can only swim in circles.

Staff at Sea Turtle Inc had previously experimented with prosthetic flippers, but without luck

Happily Allison is now able to swim and dive with ease.
