Tell your mom afternoon nap is good for memory
12 January 2008
My mom often nag me for spending so much time on sleeping. What I'll be sharing below will make my mom eat her heart out.
Believe it or not in a research conducted by brain researcher Avi Karni of the University of Haifa in Israel shows that naps can help to improve our long term memory.
Long-term memory are memories that stay with us for many many years, such as "what" memories — a car accident that happened yesterday — or "how to" memories, such as one's learned ability to play the drums or tear it up in a game of soccer.
Research is done in such manner that after a night's sleep, a comparison between two groups. Results prove that the group that slept in the afternoon long term memory improved much faster than the group that stayed awake.
Daytime sleep can shorten the time 'how to' memory becomes immune to interference and forgetting in just a 90 minutes nap. Now this is a very good reason for sleeping.
